New York City-based jazz group, The Ladybugs, have just released their first single, “I’m Crazy ‘Bout My Baby,” from their upcoming, debut album set for release late spring 2015. “I’m Crazy ‘Bout My Baby” is a modern rendition of Fats Waller’s 1931 classic that stays true to the early roots of jazz.
Recently featured on NPR and WBGO the band is led by Martina DaSilva and joined by award winning multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Kate Davis, who was named one of MTV’s “15 Fresh Females Who Rule Pop”. The band has recently received high praise for recent performances at the NY Hot Jazz Festival, NYC Winter Jazzfest and Lincoln Center's Generations in Jazz Festival and has also developed a newly formed relationship with Jazz at Lincoln Center. The Ladybugs' repertoire generally includes favorites from the 1920's '30s and '40s, infused with old-school swing and blues, plus a dash of klezmer flavor.
Will Friedwald of The Wall Street Journal featured the group in Jazz Scene stating "In all of contemporary music, The Ladybugs are easily one of my favorite things."
Marty's review: combining a Fats Waller classic with a Django Reinhardt swing, "I'm Crazy "Bout My Baby" will have you tapping your feet and dancing around the room. Happy vocals, old school brass, cool guitar licks and an infectious, shuffling beat, this is a winner in my books.
