NYC based artist, Alexander Claffy, releases focus track “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” on NextBop. This track release is in support of Claffy’s debut concept album, CLAFFY, which was released on February 26th. Claffy is unique in that he comes from traditional jazz routes but conveys an eccentric soulful sound throughout his album.
With the help of engineer/producer Michael Perez Cisneros (Kurt Rosenwinkel and Esperanza Spalding), Claffy has documented his own story of love, heartbreak and the eternal question: were we meant to be? Claffy collaborated with a variety of New York based artists throughout the album, including Michael Stephenson and Dida Pelled.

Raised in a musical household (his father is a pianist, his mother a vocalist), CLAFFY, has been gaining recognition and climbing the New York music & jazz scene. A New School graduate, the artist has recently developed a standing relationship with Jazz at Lincoln Center. In the past 3 years he has appeared on records with Victor Lewis, Orrin Evans, JD Allen and more.
CLAFFY will also be touring with the 11-year piano prodigy, Joey Alexander, later this year. Alexander is a jazz sensation who most recently performed at the Grammy’s. Details to be released at a later date.
Marty's review - Bassist Alexander Claffy's debut album is in a concept jazz-fusion style that combine various elements of contemporary jazz instrumentation with soulful vocals that all come together beautifully and highlight the talents of the musicians involved. The album is adventurous without sounding overblown and repeated listens only enhance it further. I can hear influences from the likes of Return to Forever, Weather Report and Stevie Wonder in the mix, but Claffy has certainly produced an album that is still original and will see him gain further deserved recognition.
