Anita O'Day with The Gary McFarland Orchestra...All the Sad Young Men...1961 album

Anita O'Day, with the help of genre-busting arranger, Gary McFarland, takes forties classics (and originals by Al Cohn and Horace Silver) and stands them on their heads, shocking and soothing the listener in equal measures. Soloists include Hank Jones and Phil Woods.

Anita O'Day is one of the greatest bebop vocal improvisers of all time. This reissue of the original album from 1961 includes fine remastering as well as original cover art and comprehensive liner notes. O'Day's voice sounds "cooler" than usual, singing softly and sensually with a somewhat cooled down husky voice. The arrangements are equally cool by Gary McFarland. Plenty of scatting and scat phrasing and lot's of wonderful improvising.
